Within the spate of five months four lawmakers - an ex-lawmaker inclusive - have been reported dead in Nigeria for 2018.

In January 2018

A member of the Taraba State Assembly, Hosea Ibi, was kidnapped in the early days of January 2018 and after efforts of the security operatives to get him freed, he was killed. The remains of the lawmaker was found by the police on January 15, 2018.

This time, it was the death of Umar Buba Jibril, a member of the House of Representatives representing Lokoja/Kogi Federal constituency. Jibril passed away at the age of 58 years after serving three tenures in the house. Before his death, he was the deputy majority leader.

In April 2018

The early days of April 2018 was greeted with the news of the death of an ex-lawmaker, Independence Ogunewe. Ogunewe was on Tuesday found dead in his Abuja home on April 3, 2018 at the age of 57-year-old. The former lawmaker represented Ahiazu/Ezinihitte Federal Constituency, Imo State for two terms at the House of Representatives.
On April 4, 2018, a first time Senator representing Katsina North constituency, Mustapha Bukar was announced dead.
The Senate President, Bukola Saraki, had taken out time to send his condolence message to the family of the deceased as well as the National Assembly.
He said "I am saddened to learn about the passing of another friend and colleague, Senator Mustapha Bukar. As a first-time Senator, Mustapha stood out for the quality of his contributions on the floor, his pragmatism and his work to strengthen the institution of the legislature."
The late Bukar was from the same birth place with President Muhammadu Buhari, Daura in Katsina state.
