Police IG says last abducted girl is on her way back home

Police IG says remaining Dapchi girl is on her way back home

The Police IG said he had been scheduled to travel to Dapchi but suspended the trip so as not to jeopardize the girl's release.

The Inspector General of Police Ibrahim Idris has said that the remaining Dapchi girl, Leah Sharibu, who was not released because she refused to convert to Islam, is on her way back home.

On March 21, terror group Boko Haram released 104 of the 110 abducted girls. Five of them were said to have died while Sharibu remained in captivity.
The Inspector-General of Police, Ibrahim Idris on Saturday, March 24, confirmed that Sharibu's release is imminent.
He stated this an interview with journalists at the Military Command and Control Center in Maiduguri where he visited the Theatre Commander Operation Lafiya Dole.

Idris said he had been scheduled to travel to Dapchi but shelved the trip so as not to jeopardize the girl's release.
According to The Cable sources in Dapchi, the residents and family of Sharibu confirmed that the Boko Haram terrorists were on their way to the town to drop her off.
"As of 3pm, we heard that they were 20 kilometres from Dapchi," a resident who pleaded anonymity was quoted as saying.
Another source said; "The news that they are bringing back the girl was received with mixed feelings. Some people are jubilating but many have abandoned their homes out of fear. There is confusion as I speak to you. What if they decide to abduct more people. Those guys are lunatics."
On February 19, 2018, the girls were abducted from their school, Government Girls Science Technical College (GGSTC) Dapchi, in Yobe state.
Following negotiations with the Federal Government, the terrorists freed 104 of them and two other abductees - a boy and a girl.
The freed girls were later flown to Abuja where they met with President Muhammadu Buhari at the State House.
